WHO IS “THE MECHANIC?”
The Mechanic was born and raised in the UK. He studied film at the university level in the Southwest of England then attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. In 1995, he transferred to Cal State Northridge so he could begin working in Hollywood before finishing school.
After working on Steven Spielberg’s Shoah Foundation project, The Mechanic moved into the world of feature development at Universal Pictures. A long-time fan of the action genre, he soon segued to a position with Silver Pictures, based at Warner Bros. Before long, The Mechanic was poached by an A-list producer based at Paramount. During the next few years, he would train other story analysts as the company’s Story Editor. He would then spend the next decade as the Senior Story Analyst for New Regency at 20th Century Fox.
Today, the Mechanic still works as a consultant/analyst for a handful of production companies, independent producers, writers, directors and film financiers.
Like most readers and script analysts, The Mechanic is a screenwriter himself. In 2006, his first produced movie FATAL TRUST aired on Lifetime television to record-setting ratings. Today, The Mechanic has several of his own screenplays setup around town. In early 2012, his action film BULLET RUN will begin principal photography. Academy Award-winner Nicolas Chartier (THE HURT LOCKER) will produce and Rob Cohen (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, I ALEX CROSS) will direct.
The Mechanic is also segueing into producing. He will be co-producing BULLET RUN next year and recently earned his first producing credit on the completed feature film BRAKE. The Gabe Torres-directed action thriller, which stars Stephen Dorff and Tom Berenger, will be released by IFC Films in 2012. The Mechanic and his producing partners at Walking West Entertainment also have two more feature projects in the pipeline, both written by very talented Mechanic clients. Next up is Joe Johnson’s thriller COLD, which is scheduled to shoot in Oregon this coming winter, and George Gier’s ED KRETZ motorcycle biopic, which should lens later in 2012.
The Mechanic is married to a beautiful private chef/nutritionist named Jessica and they reside in Culver City, California with their daughter Ripley, and two mischievous dogs, Bailey and Zoe. In those rare moments when The Mechanic’s not reading or writing, he likes to surf, play basketball, tool around with old Volkwagens, listen to music, enjoy a glass of wine, or play the ukulele.
